AMHERST – The University of Massachusetts will host a panel discussion Thursday, March 5, featuring Palestinian and Israeli peace activists seeking an end violence and an independent Palestinian state at peace with Israel.
The activists are part of the “OneVoice Movement” seeking to end violence between Israel and the Palestinians, according to the group’s Web site, www.onevoicemovement.org.
The discussion will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the Cape Cod Lounge of the UMass Student Union Building. The event is free and open to the public.
The OneVoice panel is being sponsored by the UMass Office of Jewish Affairs, Student Alliance for Israel, Muslim Students Association, Arab Students Club, Muslim Public Affairs Council and the local chapter of Brit Tzedek v’Shalom: The Jewish Alliance for Justice and Peace.
Larry Goldbaum, director of the UMass Office of Jewish Affairs, said the event seeks to give people an opportunity to discuss the Israel-Palestine conflict in a respectful and safe environment. He said the topic has become more pressing with the December flare-up of violence in Gaza and an investment decision at Hampshire College that sparked further debate.
The Gazette had reported erroneously that the event was to be held tonight.
