Dear ONE Member,
The world is already changing in the wake of the financial crisis. As it changes, it’s up to us to make sure that the needs of the world’s poorest are heard loud and clear. The prescription for this is simple: include representation from the African Union (AU) in future high-level summits.
The first major global summit discussing fixing the global economy will be the G20 summit in the United Kingdom in April. This group of 20 of the world’s largest economies will hash out plans for new financial systems. It’s up to UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown, who’ll be chairing the summit, to determine if the African Union is given a seat at the table.

Petition text:
Dear Prime Minister Gordon Brown,
Please include a representative of
the African Union at the upcoming G20 summit.
When the current financial system was crafted in the aftermath of World War II, only a handful of the most powerful leaders were there. This time can be different. With a combined population of over 967 million, the nations of African Union need to be included in this process. Their input is crucial if we hope to have a stable financial system that caters to the needs of all.
While he can’t single-handedly add members to the G20, it is within Gordon Brown’s power to make sure the AU is represented at this next summit. Please ask him to do so:
